Now you know.

That’s a new front fascia on a Mustang, right?

It’s interesting, other than the grill, how M ustang-esque it looks

It’s honestly amazing how much both this and the 8'er have the exact same side profile as the S550

Yup, not the only Bimmer with that problem, either

I dare say this actually looks worse than the real car.

Everytime I look at the real thing I always assume there’s no way it actually looks like that, so I have to Google it and get unpleasantly surprised again.

At this point I have no idea what the real car looks like.
Is this really it?

A part of me expected (hoped?) it’d look different in person, alas I was wrong.

I wish it was

Idk, the original is heinous. What could have been...

Don’t get me wrong, I still think the small grille one is not an AMAZING looking car, and it certainly becomes a lot more... bland, but if you need 10 feet of grille to make your design stand out, well, maybe it’s time to rethink it? Still, what could have been indeed.

Agreed; while it is an unpleasant and distracting grill, I can understand why they left it there. The rest of the car is bland and offers such little identity whatsoever.

I drive an E92 335xi. I can’t say that this design is growing on me, but I think at least the M Sport look on the blue car above is better than the base version in white here.
Neither of these is a looker. There should be some kind of blacked out grille option for the M Sport to match the blacked out window trim. My car is an M Sport and came with a chrome grille and blacked out window trim, but I switched to a black grille .
On this new 4-series the grille has a brushed gunmetal look to it instead of chrome on the base, but it’s got that weird square pattern throughout the grille instead of vertical slats. I think since there are other similar metal-look accents on the front of the car, a simple improvement would be to leave the outer rim of the grille with that gunmetal look, but get rid of the damn bright squares. I don’t have the photoshop skillz to make this look like slats, but I blacked out the squares on the M Sport on the left.
It’s subtle, but to me this is an improvement. Still doesn’t necessarily look good, but less distracting.

Same! I keep thinking it’s a post from the Facebook site called “unnecessary automobile nose swaps.” Th ose guys are great!

I think the thing is, the new 4 really is an incredibly horrible design overall. Reducing the grille (which was more to show how it would look like than to “fix” it) just puts in evidence how truly awful the rest of it is. I do like your proposal as it manages to detract from the simply WTF front end but still make it the attention drawing part of the vehicle, which it absolutely needs , but I think we can all agree the whole vehicle is a true testament of what a terrible design from this period looks like, Hummer sized grille included.

If I had to do the base model front end myself, though.

Yes please

I agree. I think it’s just time we admit the kidneys don’t look good on a modern car, period.

That is much improved.
